The Nebraska All-Hazards Mental Health Response and Recovery Capacity Development project aims to enhance state-level capacity for a coordinated response to mental health and substance abuse service needs in the event of an emergency or disaster. Project efforts are focused on two main areas – planning and training. |

Representing diverse interests and providing insight for new direction in the development of the Nebraska All-Hazards Mental Health Response and Recovery Plan, a steering committee serves as a central coordinating point for statewide activities and projects. The state planning process serves as a model for regional planning activities, currently underway in each of the six behavioral health regions in Nebraska. |

Using focus groups of mental health professionals, existing curricula was adapted (with permission) to train non-licensed mental health professionals in performing appropriate tasks during an emergency or disaster. As a result of this training, mental health professionals are free to focus on individuals in greatest need of specialized attention. |
