Several areas of Nebraska have experienced storm damage this spring. The current behavioral health response is being coordinated at the local level. Below is a list of resources that may be helpful for anyone experiencing stress or other emotions as a result of the storms.

Omaha Mall Shooting Tragedy - December 5, 2007 |
Nebraska applied for and received funding through a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Emergency Response Grant (SERG) to address the emerging behavioral health needs related to this tragedy. Grant activities are coordinated by Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare in Omaha, NE, with technical assistance and oversight provided by the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center.

Reaching Out..... Nebraska |
2006 The Reaching Out Nebraska project ended its services on December 31, 2006. For the past year, Reaching Out Nebraska had been providing outreach and assistance to former residents of the Gulf-area who have relocated to Nebraska in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
Funding for the Reaching Out Nebraska project was provided by FEMA to the State of Nebraska through Region Six Behavioral Health Care, a political subdivision of the State of Nebraska based in Omaha.
Although the Reaching Out Nebraska project has ended, individuals may contact the Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska Rural Response hotline for information about further assistance at 1-800-464-0258.

IMN Case Management Program |
2005 The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), in conjunction with their Katrina Aid Today (KAT) program, awarded a grant to Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska (IMN) to provide case management services for survivors of the 2005 Gulf Coast Hurricanes who have relocated in Nebraska.

2005 Nebraska Disaster Behavioral Health Conference |
July 14 & 15, 2005 - The 3rd Annual Nebraska Disaster Behavioral Health Conference took place on July 14 and 15 of 2005. Presenters included national speakers who will addressed topics such as assessment and mitigation of psychological reactions to disaster, risk communication, disaster substance abuse, and psychological support of children after disaster, as well as other topics addressing vulnerable populations in a disaster. A special panel session on Friday afternoon presented lessons learned over the past year in responding to the Southeast Nebraska tornados of May 2004. CEUs were made available.

C.A.R.I.N.G. Communities Project |
March 19, 2005 - The C.A.R.I.N.G. Communities Project participated in the 2005 Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium in Lincoln, which featured a display, a gathering room for people affected by the May 2004 storms, two panel presentations of storm survivors, and a presentation to storm spotters about stress.

Behavioral Response to Disasters: Satellite Conference |
August 24, 2004 - The Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department hosted a Satellite Conference on the Behavioral Health Response to Disasters. The conference included two sessions - one covering the Incident Command System and how it relates to behavioral health, the second covering Crisis Counseling.
