Resilience Assessment

A structured assessment has been created for public health organizations to assess the resilience of their workforce, which can guide organizational changes to improve overall resilience.

This assessment asks staff to rate the organization in four areas: Leadership Qualities, Organizational Practices, Workplace Culture, and Workforce Temperature. For more information, review the March 13, 2025 webinar (right).

To receive the assessment, please contact Jason Shonerd at jason.shonerd@unl.edu and specify:

  • What public health district or organization you represent
  • The date you plan to have your workforce complete the assessment

We recommend giving your staff 10 business days to complete the assessment. After your assessment deadline it will be closed, and your organization-wide scores tabulated for each of the four areas. An initial report will be shared with you within 10 business days which will provide baseline scores to gauge practices supporting workforce resilience at your organization.

Resilience Resources

These resources are intended to guide organizational changes in the same four areas included in the assessment. If your organization scores lower on an area of the assessment, you can use the associated tools to address that area.

Give Your Feedback

Resilience resources will be continually updated. If you find something useful that is not included, or if you find something in these resources that is not useful, please let us know!

Building Resilience

In a partnership with the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the ‘Building Resilience’ training aims to prepare personnel to foster resilience in themselves and their peers prior to a critical event, emergency, or disaster. Part I reviews the basics of resilience, Part II presents several coping tools associated with enhancing resilience or reducing stress, and Part III focuses on important aspects of helping others.

‘Building Resilience’ can inform a peer-to-peer approach, as well as preparing individuals.
